The 21st century generation now in college faces the monumental possibility of changing the course of history, of resolving the conflicts set into motion from the opening guns of World War I to post World War II. Music from 1910 to 1950, from the intimate cabaret, the jazz joint, the extravagant music hall, and the boisterous street band resonates with the history of war and revolution and the desires and fantasies of the "golden age", the years of folly, the hipsters and the zazous.

From Paris in the Jazz Age to Souvenirs of Paris, 1950
For The College Campus:
The Cabaret-Paree repertoire, and in particular the two "bookends" of Paris in the Jazz Age, 1910-1940 and Souvenirs of Paris, 1950 serve as a unique complement to university and college-level French, international studies, history and sociology, and performing arts. The universal appeal of the music makes the performance components ideal for community outreach programs organized by campus activities and special events coordinators.
- As an intimate theatre piece with lighting and portable set pieces,
the repertoire can be played in one act or two.
- With the inclusion of songs from the classical French repertoire, the repertoire becomes a "refined" recital for the concert hall.
- The songs can be performed as a club act or soirée musicale...only a piano
and "lounge" are required.
- For festive occasions and large fundraisers, a large concert variation of the show is available with jazz quintet (piano, accordion, saxophone/winds, bass and percussion).
- Master classes in song interpretation and the art of the "one-person show" are offered for performing arts students.
Workshops can explore the history and geography, the French
language, the poetry and the music of first half of the 20th century.
- Claudia is ready to participate in seminars exploring themes raised by the program - the history of American expatriates in Paris, the Left-Bank era of
existentialism, poetry and musical styles in post-war France (from
French chanson to jazz hot), the mythology and image-making of Paris.
- A study guide is available containing the playlist,
lyrics, translations, commentaries on the songs in their historical
context.
- Claudia Hommel's recordings of Paris/Paree and Paris in the Jazz Age, complete with translations and commentary, are recommended for
language labs and classroom use.
"On garde toujours un souvenir inoubliable de votre concert! Merci d'une
présentation formidable." [Thank you for an unforgettable and stunning
concert."]
